A BRIEF WORD ON SAFETY.

You may be thinking "Duh!!!!!, of course, it's only common sense."

We agree, common sense says not everything about safety has been covered here. Common sense says a lot of things. But most importantly, listen to common sense and never negotiate safety. The single most important tool you have, is your mind.

So if safety has a lot to do with common sense, why do people get hurt? Because they are either doing something that is beyond thier abilities or expertise, try to short cut safety measures, and defeat safety measures. Doesn't sound like the application of common sense does it?

Common sense says:

  • Don't tackle tasks that are risky and dangerous. You have qualified tradesmen and professionals in your area that can do the jobs safely, legally, and quickly. You can always negotiate price with these folks, don't negotiate safety. These professionals have years of training and experience, and they are trained to recognize and eliminate potential safety hazards. While we attempt to show you a general concept on how it is done, it is not intended that you do it. Every situation is different and posses a very individule safety concern.

  • Plan, plan, plan. Research, and make sure you get good credible information on everything.

  • Pay attention to all the Manufacturer Safety Instructions in your equipment manuals.

  • Generators and electricity can be very safe, and reliable. They can also be very dangerous when done improperly.

  • Always consult your local Building and Electrical Codes for specific information regarding what you are doing. They can assist you in making your efforts safe, legal and compliant.

  • When working, take a break, and relax once in a while. Step back and think about what you are doing, and what is going to happen. If you are tired, it is time to stop for a rest and think.

  • Include safety concerns in all your plans, and make sure it is one of the first items addressed when you begin to execute your plan.
